The Flames played one of the better all around games of the year last night we just ended up on the wrong side of the score sheet with a 2-1 loss. We ended up with 48 shots on net it was a goaltending duel for the most part. Smith and Anderson faced a lot of high quality shots so to keep the score 1-1 through regulation and OT, I am sure made both coaches happy with their tenders.
The only negative besides the loss of the point was the shots being 48-29 Flames the High Danger chances ended up being equal while we were driving the play for the majority of the game. So that tells me our D play still needs work.
Our first line has slowed its torrid scoring pace but they are still getting chances and playing well. Everyone has their ups and downs, lets hope this line starts busting through again in a big way. The 3m line was themselves. Backlund and Frolick are true pros. You almost get the same players night in and night out. Tkachuk for being a young player has also been fairly consistent through his young career but he is the difference a lot of nights from that line just being good to being on of the best in the League. Tkachuk is in a slump right now with 0 goals in 11 games. Its time to see him come out of that. Jankowski line missed Jagr. It really shows how is puck possession and hockey IQ helps this line. Hathaway did have his chances and unlike in the AHL he simply didn't finish. He just isn't Jagr but on the flip side of that he isn't Tanner Glass either. I do like Hathaway in a bottom 6 role.He gives us more physical presence with a hint of offensive upside. Stajan with Lazar and Brouwer in limited minutes played well. They played about 10 min and ended up with 7 shots on net. I actually thought Stajan was going to score a goal. Can't remember the last time i remember thinking that.
All 6 defenceman played good last night. Thought it was one of Hamonics best games but that could coincide with Brodie looking engaged in our zone as well, Gio seen some power play time and scored a seeing eye goal. Hamilton ended up with 5 shots on net. Stone and Kuluk played a solid game as well with Stone blasting 5 shots on net.
