Flames win 3-2 vs Avalanche-Rittich stands tall

November 26, 2017

We won and only allowed 2 goals against. Rittich came in and stood tall saving 24 shots for a .923 sv% for his first NHL win in his first start. Right from the start he looked confident and comfortable. He did make some good saves while we played much better defensively yesterday helping him out. We did out play them in the first two periods with them making a push in the third making it a one game goal with 3 minutes to play. A goal Rittich probably should have stopped. Yes there was traffic in front but the shot from the point was never tipped and only 1 layer of bodies.

Our first line was great again yesterday. Ferland credited with 2 shots on net had many glorious opportunities in the first period. Ringing one off the post, firing a quick one timer over the net and a slap shot just missing the top corner. The 3m line had a bounce back game with a combined 4 points and while not corsi monsters they had a regular dominate game in the advanced stats. The Janks line had an off night for most part but did still manage 5 shots between the trio. The rotating 4th line center position was Stajans last night with Hamilton on the wing with Versteeg getting the night off. It didn't seem to change their dynamic still being below 50% cf in about 8 min of ice time.

Our defensive play was better and our 1st pairing of Gio-Hamilton was dominate. Getting 10 shots on net with Dougie getting 7 shots and a goal all while being in that 60%cf. Brodie and Hamonic had a better game with Hamonic ending up with an assist and a strong cf of 58.33% Brodie played a couple more minutes of 5v5 but had a cf of 46.43% which is a pretty big drop off from your partner. Our third pairing was switched up with our 7th d-man Bartowski getting some game time. I wouldn't expect to see him back in the lineup next game unless Kulak is banged up. The Bartowski-Stone pairing got 1 shot on net while being crushed in advanced stats Bartowski 45.5 cf % and Stone even being worse at 37.04 cf %. Stone really seems to struggle with Bartowski as a defensive pairing.

It was a pretty decent road trip going with 3w 2l and an ot loss. getting 7 points out of a possible 12.
