The Flames are lucky to come away with two points today. They looked sloppy from the start but where able to pull it together, least in the offensive zone. We can say thank you to our first line for the two points .Monohan lead the way with 3 goals and a 4 point game. They combined for a total of 8 points with 5 coming on the power play, 13 shots on net and for the most part won the head to head battle against the Flyers top line. The 3m line seem to be missing Tkachuk but still put a decent game together with the duo of Backlund and Frolick getting the ot winner. Jankowski's line really came on in the third period. All though not credited with a shot on net Jankowski and Bennett both hit posts while Jagr had a good chance for a cheeky goal from behind the net. With Jagr back he seems to have pushed Jankowski to another level. I am excited to see how far that line can go. Our 4th line was what our 4th line normally is, boring.
Our defensive play has been poor all year which has really shown in the scores in last half a dozen games not allowing less than 4 goals. With arguably one of the best defences in the league and Smith being the goalie we hoped we traded for its a bit disturbing. Today was simply ugly. So bad its hard to even say how most of the d-men played. There was no pressure, bad passes coming out and to many fly byes to count. I thought Kulak was one of our best defenders today even seeing some pk time. As much as he has impressed this year he cannot be one of our best if we expect W's. We need to clean that zone up much sooner than later otherwise we will be on the outside of the playoff picture.
Far as the two tales go we looked like a contender today in offensive zone. In the d-zone it looked like pre season.
