After a weird win against Detroit I have come up with this.
FINALLY the 3rd line scored. I have been up and down about the Jagr signing. Not because of his talent but the fact he takes a younger players roster spot. After watching yesterday I was wrong. With us going with a few young players on the team there is nothing better for their growth then a guy who loves the sport but could give a damn what anyone else thinks. It teaches the kids to focus on hockey but not to worry about the pressure of performance. With some goals from the 3rd line and the 4th line having a lot of chances against Vancouver the 1st line could cool down a bit and our offence will still improve. Defensively I could not not even make out what was causing all the disastrous mistakes. Gio looked like he was up all night with his wife, which is fair, Congrats to his family. We do miss Hamonic but Anderson was an upgrade over Bartkowski. If we are in win NOW mode Bartkowski, unfortunately needs to be playing for the Heat.
Smith played alright against Detroit and poorly against Vancouver. Overall I think his play has been great but what I see happening at this rate either he has/will become a bit too comfortable or tired. Either way Lack needs to play some more and if he is no good, Rittich or Gillies can come up to fill in.
Overall if our young guys continue to gain confidence and the goaltending hangs in there, the Flames I believe can go on a run soon and move up the standings a ways ABOVE Edmonton :) and pass teams like Vegas and Vancouver. It would be nice to do it before Anahiem and some other teams start doing it.
