So if Treliving looks after the hockey end of the Flames and Ken King looks after the business end. Mr. King even going as far as politely telling Burke to be quite when he commented on the progress of a new arena. Is Burke's job to keep an eye on the GM and fire and hire as he feels needed ? Or is it to supply his knowledge to a GM and Ken King ? Burke has slowly diminished into the background more and more since the hiring of Treliving and you think with 2 assistant GM's that most of the hockey decisions have all the insight you could imagine prior to getting to Burke's level.
After the announcement that the Flames are now a team that receives revenue sharing, which I believe is only a ploy for negotiating with the city and ticket prices ever rising are the Flames spending money on things and people they may not need ? I understand players salaries are the largest cost, but that is an expense that you cannot avoid, plus the players are doing their very best each day to be the best they can. Are the owners ? Or are they resting on fans money and the players and coaches hard work ? Players salary is also controlled more by the League than the team, this forces teams to spend to a budget or spend to win to create more revenue.
Corporations can often start a new division that over time needs an assistant that over time needs another assistant which raises the cost of the division and the cost of doing business. Then when someone decides there needs to be budget cuts made, a department gets cut. What could of been a useful department gets cut because of cost when maybe scaling back to what is needed. What I am saying is the Flames went from 1 GM to a President of Hockey Operations a GM and 2 assistant GM's. Have all the Flames hirings ( not just these) caused some of these financial woes. Not to say some growth wasn't needed but what upsets me is the high costs of tickets and the fact that IF the Flames are not a cost effective business who if fixing it? Burke?
I am jealous of Burke's position, I wish it was mine but when tax payers and fans pay the bills it would be nice to see more than excuses instead of a guy sitting in the shadows.
